D23, the annual convention for all things Disney, is taking place this week in Anaheim, CA. Typically, Disney uses the event to announce upcoming films or projects or games under the Disney umbrella. To that end, Ravensburger and Lorcana had their own panel where the game's designers talked about the success of the game so far and looked ahead to its future. Lorcana's Success So Far
First, they talked about the success of Lorcana so far. There have been over 1 billion cards sold, along with 100s of thousands of players playing in Lorcana events around the world.
They also touched on the game's growing distribution, as it is now available in 4 regions of the world and over 20 different countries.
Disney Lorcana Challenge
The success of the Disney Lorcana Challenge events has players looking forward to the next rung on the DLC ladder. Regional championships for Europe and North America are planned to be held late this year and early next, at Disneyland Paris and Disneyland California, respectively. All players participating in the regional championship events will receive a promo edition of A Whole New World.
In addition. they announced that the World Championships for Disney Lorcana will take place sometime in 2025 at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, FL. The winner of the event will be crowned world champion and receive a special, golden, serialized 1/1 Mickey Mouse - Brave Little Tailor card inscribed with the words "World Champion 2025" on it!
Set 6 and Beyond
While they did not officially announce set 6 for Lorcana, they did let slip that it would be nautical themed and even dropped a few spoilers of pirate cards coming in the next set. I wonder if the next set will have something to do with the Azurite Sea, a location that was teased in the flavor text of some of the cards in Shimmering Skies?
Also announced for set 6 is the introduction of the Rescue Rangers franchise to Disney Lorcana. They also confirmed that Pocahontas and The Black Cauldron would be coming to Lorcana in one of the sets scheduled for release in 2025.
Lastly, there has been much speculation around whether we would ever see Pixar franchises make their way into the Lorcana universe and now that can be finally be put to rest. Ravensburger confirmed that Pixar IS coming to Disney Lorcana in 2026!
Conclusion
That's a lot of juicy info! The game looks to be in a good place right now with lots of exciting franchises debuting and events to look forward to. With Shimmering Skies out at hobby and local games stores now, and the Gateway product just released, it's a great time to jump into Disney Lorcana if you haven't already.
