Card Evaluations

Whew, that's a lot of cards! Let's run through some evaluations for them quickly:

  • Shenzi - Pack Leader is another character, like Minnie Mouse - Funky Spelunker, that gains Strength while at a location. Her What's The Hurry? ability is nice, especially in Emerald which, outside of the discard deck, does not have many draw options. But having to pay the movement cost to get her to a location might make her too expensive. You'll definitely want some way to move characters for free if you are going to use her.
  • Iago - Pretty Polly is a color swapped Fidget - Ratigan's Henchman. Fidget isn't the best card but it does see some play, mostly as a way to counter Minnie Mouse - Stylish Surfer. Iago will likely also be a meta call.
  • Cleansing Rainwater is another Amber healing item. The other healing items have been trash and I don't think this card will buck that trend. I like the art though.
  • Tiana's Palace is a location card in Amber with a very powerful effect that blocks all challenges on characters at the location. It's essentially Bodyguard, but on a location. And at a whopping 8 Willpower on turn 3 it is going to be hard for your opponent to get through it. The movement cost is a bit expensive, so you will likely want to take advantage of some cost reduction to get characters there, like with the recently-revealed Voyage or Map of Treasure Planet. But once characters are there, they can quest to their hearts content. I'm definitely interested in trying an aggressive location deck with Tiana's Palace as a key card in that deck.
  • Don Karnage is a decent 5-drop for an Evasive deck. He competes with a lot of other 5-drops in Emerald though, including the also-Evasive Ray - Easygoing Firefly. Compared to Ray, he swaps 1 lore for an extra +1/+1. Is that better? In a meta with a lot of 3 damage removal, it could be. Overall, he's a solid common.
  • Queen of Hearts is another support card for the Amber Villain deck. This has been a deck archetype that has floated around on the fringes of the game since we first saw Hades - King of Olympus. The deck probably still needs more support to be truly viable, but this card is a step in that direction. Eventually, the villains' day will come.
  • This Way to Olympus is another location hate card. So far, both of the location hate cards we have seen have been in Steel. This one doesn't seem as good as And Then Along Came Zeus as it's not a song and relies on having some characters in play to actually do the challenging. But if location decks are prevalent in the meta, I can see this card being tech-in as another way to counter them.
  • We end the reveals on a banger. Not only is this card art amazing, but look at that lore! FOUR lore on a 6-drop is spicy. And a 4/5 body is not bad either. Yes, it will still die to a lot of hard removal but at least you are generally breaking even on tempo with that. Better yet, if you can get Robin Hood to float on down the river to Fang, giving him Evasive and Ward, he is going to become a real scary threat for your opponent.
