Card Evaluations

Let's dive right into some quick evalutations:

  • Bianca is a reprint of Sebastian - Court Composer. It's a bit strange to see a direct reprint in back-to-back sets like this. Sebastian has not seen any play, mainly because there aren't any impactful songs that cost 4. And Then Along Came Zeus might change that so Singer 4 could become relevant.
  • Diablo is a 1-drop option for decks that play Maleficent. He combos especially well with Maleficent - Sorceress. I just don't think this effect is good enough to justify playing such a weak 1-drop.
  • Rise of the Titans is location and item removal rolled into one. At 3-cost, this card could take the place of Benja - Guardian of the Dragon Gem in decks that want answers to both items and locations.
  • Hyrdos is best compared to Elsa - Snow Queen, except he trades one 1 Willpower for 1 lore. That extra Willpower though is kinda crucial, so if I wanted this effect, I would probably just play Elsa. Unless you specifically need a Titan card for your deck...
  • Lythos is another Titan card who, despite only having 1 Willpower, essentially functions as if he has 3 Willpower. And he has the ability to give another character (or even himself) some extra Resist. A nice card for Resist decks.
  • Scrooge's Top Hat is basically Lantern for items. And I actually think it could be pretty good. Making Pawpsicle free to play can be quite powerful, helping you cycle through your deck. And once you've gotten decent value off of the Top Hat, you can always banish it with Hiram Flaversham - Toymaker for more card draw. Very playable card.
  • Bestow a Gift is the Mama Odie - Voice of Wisdom effect, except for one damage only and it costs you a card. For that reason, I don't think it will be worth running, but the effect is interesting and I hope we continue to see more cards that utilize it.
  • Scroop is a character that gains value when he is damaged, which is a theme for Ruby introduced in Rise of the Floodborn. Unfortunately, even when you can activate his ability it only brings the card up to a similar level with Card Soldiers - Full Deck. And no one plays Card Soldiers. This card is only going to be relevant if its classifications, particularly Pirate, Alien and Villain, are used in some way.
  • Little Pluto here is a Shift-target for the big Pluto up next. But he also has a nice ability, bringing with him a Lantern-effect on a body. He's good for getting a 3-cost character down on turn 2, someone like Doc - Leader of the Seven Dwarfs perhaps?
  • Big Pluto is a Bodyguard with a whopping 8 Willpower and a useful self-healing effect. If you can get this good boy down on turn 5 (or possibly even earlier with Amber's ink acceleration effects), he is going to prove a huge protective wall for your other characters to quest freely.
  • Rufus is another ramp character in Sapphire, with the same effect as Gramma Tala - Storyteller and James - Role Model. Gramma has seen tons of play, whereas James has seen none. That's because you generally want to be ramping as early as possible. Having to wait until turn 5 or later for this effect just isn't as useful, so I don't think Rufus is going to make the cut.
