Disney Lorcana Market Watch: Week of June 30

Each week, we will be taking a look at the cards that rose and fell in price the most on the secondary market in Disney Lorcana.

Each week, I will be taking a look at the cards that rose and fell the most in each of Disney Lorcana’s sets and potentially make some predictions based on chatter I am hearing and results I am seeing throughout the community.

A few rules up front:

  1. Price changes are based on TCGplayer Market Price, updated every hour on the hour (through an API). Market price is based on the average price of card sales. I am looking at the percentage price change from 7 days ago compared to when the article is written each week. Depending on when you are reading this/article goes live, compared to when that section was written, prices may change slightly.
  2. I am only looking at cards Rare or above, and with current value of close to $1 or more. Cards under $1 can have wide market swings given easy buyouts, but given the current state of supply of cards it was hard to find cards above this value for comparison given their growth trends. For cards under $1 I only included those I feel have the potential to go higher and were not simply artificially inflated (i.e. they actually see play).
  3. I am looking at only non-foil pricing. Note that prices on foil staple cards are very high (for example, you can probably get close to $100 for a Beast - Tragic Hero!).
  4. As there are now four sets for Disney Lorcana, I will be taking a look at the market as a whole, not just cards per set, and only the cards that rose (not fell) and my predictions for the next week.
  5. This article is for informational purposes only, you should not construe this information as financial advice.

News of the Week Affecting Lorcana Finance

We had a few new cards from Shimmering Skies revealed but overall was a quiet week from the official RB news front. Since next week is the Fourth of July (which lands on a Thursday) in the USA, I expect next week to be quiet on that front also.

Last weekend there was a large $10k, along with a second day $2k, event in Atlanta hosted by Charlie's Collectables Show that was pretty close overall to the actual metagame. The tournament was dominated by the decks you would expect, with Ruby-Amethyst taking down the $10k and Emerald-Steel winning the $2k.

For most of the Lorcana community, preparing for Set Championships is on everyone's mind! Since Set Championships are a month long, I expect singles sales velocity for staple cards to be steady throughout the month. The other major question on the singles front is what type of sealed product RB is allowing the stores to purchase while hosting the Set Champs. I believe there will be a token amount of each set available, so singles prices may reduce in value throughout the month (especially The First Chapter).

Most prices across the board are pretty constant, with mostly smaller value cards rising in value. I am not going to talk about those trends because they are seem based on spillover of other staple cards seeing value, and will not continue, especially if any type of restock occurs, no matter how small it is.

Lorcana's Biggest Risers

The Queen's Castle - Mirror Chamber

  • Current Market Price: $11.84
  • 7 Day Percentage Change: +36.8%

The Queen's Castle has a real reason for rising in value! It is the centerpiece win condition in Ruby-Amethyst (and really in anything Amethyst) and is proving to be one of the major pillars of the metagame. To see a rare from the third set rapidly climbing to $15 is impressive, and an argument for buying boxes of Into the Inklands, which have been on some mega sales recently! The Castle is clearly the best Location in the game, even with more entering the meta, and I do not see the dominance of this Amethyst staple going down anytime soon. In fact, if the code can be cracked on other Amethyst lists, it still has room to grow!

Jim Hawkins - Space Traveler

  • Current Market Price: $7.22
  • 7 Day Percentage Change: +19.7%

The most interesting deck on the weekend was an Amber-Ruby locations based strategy, played by TowelmanPurple. This has spiked interest in Location-based cards, with Jim benefitting the most from this hype. I think that list can be improved upon, maybe even featuring different ink combinations, but it shows a place in the metagame for Locations to shine. Where Locations go, so goes Jim, so there may be opportunities here to get in on some of the still early hype!

Be King Undisputed

  • Current Market Price: $1.45
  • 7 Day Percentage Change: +12.4%

Another standout in the Ruby-Amethyst winning deck was Be King Undisputed which allows the deck to shift to a more tempo-focused strategy. This one-sided, Lady Tremaine - Imperious Queen-type effect in a song really allows you to flip the board in the mid-game. I think this card has other decks it can shine in beyond Ruby-Amethyst and if that comes to fruition expect this price to spike.

Peter Pan - Shadow Finder

  • Current Market Price: $0.43
  • 7 Day Percentage Change: +11.6%

This may fall below my usual threshold, but I feel this card has a chance to rise in value so I am paying attention to the trend. If you are playing Amethyst without Steel or Ruby, this Pan gives you an answer to Diablo on the draw, which can be key. Even with those combinations, if you can supplement the in-color answers with this rush Pan, it is only icing on the cake. You really cannot find a playset at or below this market price from a reputable dealer, and since this is a Super Rare, it has room to grow!

Flynn Rider - Frenemy

  • Current Market Price: $5.62
  • 7 Day Percentage Change: +10.5%

Speaking of solid new Super Rares, this staple Flynn Rider is the poster child for Super Rares that can rise in value if they see play in more than one deck! This Flynn is so important against a control-heavy metagame, that I can see this card rising in value even higher. In fact, you cannot really even find a playset of this card from a reputable dealer for less than almost $7, so the market price should be on the way up! Unless players find a way of containing the recent surge of Ruby-Amethyst (and he is in Amber-Ruby as well), I see this card being a very popular option at Set Champs!

Strength of a Raging Fire

  • Current Market Price: $5.63
  • 7 Day Percentage Change: +11.7%

A staple song in a harder to find set, Strength of a Raging Fire sees a ton of play in Amber-Steel (and even Amethyst-Steel) which is gaining in popularity leading up to Set Champs. This card has never really been beneath $5 and you cannot actually find a playset from one seller under $6. Is there room for this to be a premium Rare?

Cards to look out for in Lorcana

Piglet - Pooh Pirate Captain

  • Current Market Price: $1.52
  • 7 Day Percentage Change: 7.4%

The two drop spot in Amber-Steel is in question, and since Piglet was the star of DLC Lille and DLC Atlanta, there is a chance he finds a home in that slot again! He is also seeing play in Amber-Ruby as well, since it is so character dominant. Given the "alternate art" version from the Illumineer's Quest, there is room for all versions of this high questing, low cost, super cute Pirate Captain (key with Smee!) to rise in value!

Belle - Accomplished Mystic

  • Current Market Price: $0.37
  • 7 Day Percentage Change: -40.5%

As arguably the best card in draft in Ursula's Return, it had to translate to constructed at some point! She has seen play in recent, budget Amethyst-Steel lists and she just presents so much value if you can heal and deal damage. Heavily played characters like Mr. Smee - Bumbling Mate can help you do that, so we may see the value on this card continue to rise. I think if any set has a playable early game Belle you can Shift onto, this Belle can really spike in value (as really any mid-game Floodborn is apt to do).

Mickey Mouse - Playful Sorcerer

  • Current Market Price: $0.85
  • 7 Day Percentage Change: +9.4%

Another card with an alternate art from Illumineer's Quest, this Mickey gives Sapphire-Steel an impressive Shift line that starts with Mickey Mouse - Detective! He allows you to sing A Whole New World with a difficult to deal with character (given his Resist+1) and can really be a tech card in certain matchups! If other early Mickey Mouses see play in the future of this metagame, I can see this Rare (as well as the alternate art) taking off!

World's Greatest Criminal Mind

If you see this for too long, please disable AdBlock and try to reload the page...
  • Current Market Price: $0.59
  • 7 Day Percentage Change: +0.0%

This has now become a staple card in Amber-Steel, dealing with its most difficult matchup in Ruby-Sapphire. This three cost song takes out all the problem characters you need to deal with, from Maui to Tamatoa, and can easily be found with Ariel - Spectacular Singer. The fact that this is an inkable "tech card" in the matchups you do not need it (Emerald-Steel) is also key for a deck with so many uninkables. As we get further and further from Rise of the Floodborn, this former bulk rare has room to rise (and you really cannot find them under $1 from reputable sellers!)

Conclusion

The metagame continues to chug along and sales velocity on all Lorcana staples remains high, and you can see this with underplayed cards rising in value, percentage wise. We need some more reveals from Shimmering Skies to really shake up the market, or some new decks to burst onto the scene, or we are just going to continue to see the same cards rise in value week after week!
